2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
J.B. Pennington finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year J.B. Pennington finished eighth in Class 4A region seven with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. J.B. Pennington struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 36.7 points a game. The Tigers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, the J.B. Pennington football program has struggled with a record of 11-51. Over the past 25 seasons, J.B. Pennington has managed to compile a record of 108-158. Their 41.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 3A and 273rd in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2007. The Tigers are led by head coach Todd Cassity who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-8 record in his first season at J.B. Pennington. The Tigers saw improvement from a 1-9 record the season before coach Cassity arrived. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Cassity. Coach Cassity's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 18-17 (51.4%). Over the course of his career, Coach Cassity's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times . The J.B. Pennington Tigers will play in Class 3A region six during the 2016 season. The Tigers may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 4A to 3A. They will compete in region six this year. Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. This season, the Tigers will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region six. The Tigers open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Brindlee Mountain on Friday, August 19 at W.R. Sutton Memorial Stadium. Last year the Brindlee Mountain Lions finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in eighth place in Class 3A region seven. The Lions closed out the regular season with a loss to D.A.R. by a score of 35-20. J.B. Pennington and Brindlee Mountain have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 6-0-0 record against the Lions. They last met in 2013 with J.B. Pennington winning by a score of 28-8. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
